Progress … of sorts

Alright, making a font is not always fun. Ok, many people would probably say it is never fun. But there is a time in every creative project where you are ready to just give up. Don’t worry I’m not quite there yet but it certainly was not easy-going the past two weeks. Two reasons: a little bit of doubt about the “uniqueness” and quality of the work so far, plus the sheer amount of work still left to do.

Anyway, enough whining. Below is my latest attempt in refining my letters. As suggested, I switched to a single-story “a” and tried my best to achieve a consistent contrast and modulation. I also gave my typeface a little bit more of a “round” look, giving it a little bit more of an open and cheerful look. At least that’s what I see – and I like it.

In order to move on and get something done, I’m thinking of using this general style, producing all the letters and get ready for the digital part of this. Any objections?

  • It looks better every time you show it. You still have to work on capitals and figures at least. The dot on “i” is still small. “m” is a tiny bit narrow.

Proportion and modulation is the best on the third “a” on the first row but the upper terminal is a

So, what do you think?
